The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Heritage Institute of Technology conducted its flagship event, EntreSpark 2016 – The Entrepreneurship Summit last week. The Summit featured seminars by established entrepreneurs in and around the city, and workshops to motivate and enthuse students of the college to inculcate an entrepreneurial mindset. The Entrepreneurship Summit invited students not just from the college but from all other colleges in the city and beyond to understand and appreciate the spirit of entrepreneurship.

What is Data Science?

Data Science is the extraction of knowledge from large volumes of data that are structured or unstructured. This “unstructured data” could include any sort of social media update, google searches, photos, videos and any other visual content, and even emails. It is basically the practice of deriving useful insight from a large amount of data. These insights could be used in business for predictive analysis. The Data Science Summit is an endeavour to promote the same.

As we all are aware of, the world is becoming an increasingly digital space. Today, we manage, share and store our lives online. Data is gathered from all sort of devices we use, like computers, smart phones and tablet that collect and transmit information on what we do.

In fact, if we gathered all the data from the beginning of time until the year 2003, it would be less than what we create in a single minute now. This phenomenon is transforming our understanding of the world and our place in it. This is often referred to as Big Data.

I have been through this exact same rollercoaster ride of emotions just a year ago, and I know how challenging it can be to find yourself ripped from those surroundings you’re so used to, and put in a class with a bunch of strangers. But trust me, those strangers eventually become your best friends,and the unfamiliar surroundings become witness to unforgettable memories.

Freshmen No More – The First Year in College

Memories of Freshman Year
The switch from being a school student to a college student brings with it an enthusiasm to explore one’s own self, challenge capabilities and conquer new horizons. Such was the case too, roughly a year back, when I stepped into college. Brimming with excitement, yet with an undeniable degree of apprehension,  I was totally new to the surroundings of Heritage Institute of Technology.
Growing up is a strangely exhilarating experience.
As my friend Mukund put it, college is about “Getting thrust from your comfort zone and being able to redefine yourself from scratch.” Well, it certainly is. It is about forming new friendships, getting to know people better, understanding your own priorities and above all, making memories to last a lifetime.
